George Crump Joins VergeIO as CMO

January 10, 2023 by Verge.IO Leave a Comment

Brings over 30 years IT industry experience to rapidly growing technology innovator

Ann Arbor, Mich, January 10, 2023 — VergeIO, the Ultraconverged Infrastructure (UCI) company, today announced that veteran industry analyst George Crump is joining the team as the company’s new Chief Marketing Officer, evangelizing VergeOS software as a better alternative to legacy hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) and the public cloud.

For 14 years, Crump was the founder and lead analyst at Storage Switzerland, a premier independent IT research firm covering the storage, backup virtualization, and cloud markets. As a writer, speaker, and strategic thinker, he focuses on giving IT practical insight into the solutions to data center problems. He has over 30 years of experience in the IT industry, holding executive engineering, sales, and marketing positions. Before joining VergeIO, he was Chief Marketing Officer and then Chief Product Strategist at StorONE, an enterprise storage software provider.

Crump’s appointment follows an expansion of VergeIO’s sales and technology advancements that have generated strong results.

“There is no one in our industry with George’s reputation and credibility when it comes to identifying the right products and technologies for organizations looking to improve IT operations and reduce total cost of ownership,” said Yan Ness, VergeIO CEO. “The IT community has long valued George’s experience, insight, and clarity. As our CMO, he can continue to help IT professionals address their most critical issues, like controlling cost, scaling to meet performance and capacity demands, and simplifying IT.”

“VergeIO and its VergeOS software embody what I’ve been advocating for years: organizations must find ways to reduce the cost and complexity of virtualization, storage, and networking infrastructures,” said Crump. “The root cause of the ever-increasing data center cost and complexity is today’s solutions are too niche and don’t address the scale problem. I believe VergeIO is the company that has broken through these challenges.”

George and Yan will host a live webinar, “How to Eliminate the Data Center Scale Problem,” this Thursday at 11:45 AM ET / 8:45 AM PT to explain how the VergeOS architecture eliminates the scale problem and leads to a far simpler and more cost-effective IT infrastructure.

About VergeIO

The VergeOS software goes beyond HCI and converges the entire data center (virtualization, networking, and storage) into a cohesive data center operating system. The result is an ultraconverged infrastructure (UCI), that unifies the underlying hardware into a highly scalable global resource pool.

Its simplicity of operation enables IT generalists to create virtual data centers (VDC) and assign specific resources from the global resource pool to deliver complete workload consolidation without risking performance integrity. VergeOS dramatically reduces IT spend and operational complexity compared to traditional three-tier architectures, HCI, or public cloud. VergeOS provides global inline deduplication, virtualized workloads with bare-metal performance, and comprehensive data protection.

VergeIO Appoints Mike Wall Chairman of the Board

ANN ARBOR, Mich., October 25, 2022 — VergeIO, the company with a simpler way to virtualize data centers, today announced the appointment of Mike Wall as chairman of its board of directors due to growth in market opportunity for its virtualization software that provides a common platform from the edge to the public cloud and all points in between.

Wall is a seasoned executive with a history of leading the introduction of disruptive technologies and leadership in both the C-suite and boardroom. He was chairman and CEO of Amplidata, a leading object storage software company, and led its sale to Western Digital in March 2015. Prior to Amplidata he was CEO and member of the board of storage innovator Atempo (acquired by Allen Systems Group) and before that, CEO and member of the board of the cloud SaaS medical imaging platform DICOM Grid.

Wall was general manager of Intel’s Storage Group, where he led the industry’s transition to storage systems designed with commodity microprocessors and chipsets. Under his leadership revenue grew from zero to a $500 million annual run rate. Before taking that role, he led the financial turnaround of Intel’s Supercomputer Systems business and grew revenue to more than $100 million. He is currently on the boards of Axellio and Mach Networks.

“Mike has extensive board experience from mature technologies to venture-backed companies, from global leaders to disruptors, and contributes much-appreciated market wisdom,” said VergeIO CEO Yan Ness. “The shifts in our category resulting from recent acquisitions are creating enormous opportunities and Mike’s strategic sense can help us capitalize on them.”

“I am honored to be part of the effort to help organizations find simpler, more efficient and less costly ways to deploy their infrastructure,” said Wall. “The IT industry has changed dramatically in the past few years, as organizations rely more on cloud platforms, and high-level IT talent is growing scarce. VergeIO addresses these trends and more.”

Verge-OS software delivers virtualized data centers with more compelling economics and efficiencies than competing platforms. Verge-OS abstracts compute, network, and storage from commodity servers and creates pools of raw resources that are simple to run and manage by an IT generalist. A single license replaces disparate hypervisor, network, storage, data protection, and management tools to simplify technology stacks. Secure virtual data centers based on Verge-OS include all enterprise data services like global deduplication, disaster recovery, continuous data protection, snapshots, long-distance synch, and auto-failover.

About VergeIO

VergeIO provides a simpler way to virtualize data centers and end IT infrastructure complexity.  VergeIO Continues Record-Setting Growth, 300% Growth Quarter over Quarter in ARR bookings

ANN ARBOR, Mich., November 8, 2022 — VergeIO, the leader in private cloud software, today announced that it saw the second straight quarter of record quarter-over-quarter growth driven by both new customer acquisition and existing customer expansion.  To further capitalize on these transformative opportunities, the company appointed Mike Wall as chairman of its board of directors.

In Q3 VergeIO closed over 3x more annual recurring revenue(ARR) than Q2, for the 2nd best quarter in company history.  This continued upward trajectory is the result of existing customers increasing their deployment of the Verge-OS virtualization software and acquisition of new customers replacing their incumbent implementations due to cost, complexity, inability to scale and lack of ransomware protection. Additionally, VergeIO increased sales velocity, even closing new logos in a matter of weeks.

VergeIO also ended Q3 with the strongest pipeline in company history. Multiple transformative opportunities were added to the pipeline that would exponentially increase top line. In addition, numerous new distribution channels are under review that would dramatically increase sales velocity in 2023.

These successful results are in part due to VergeIO’s recent expansion of sales and marketing efforts to educate potential customers on the company’s ability to simplify the software defined data center into a single, powerful piece of software that runs on commodity hardware. These efforts, a newly launched website and a new technical wiki and online self-paced training system have earned the attention of analysts and editors.

To help continue the momentum that VergeIO is building, the company recruited Mike Wall to serve as its chairman. Wall spent 15 years atIntel, ran its storage division, then spent time at a few VC-backed early-stage ventures in the storage space. His repeated, high-multiple exits in the space further positions VergeIO to capitalize on recent growth to add market valuation.

“Coming off of a record-breaking quarter makes this is an exciting time to be a part of the VergeIO team and I look forward to helping continue the sales velocity that we’ve achieved,” said Wall.  “From increasing our market visibility to growing our pipeline of global customers to quickly closing sales opportunities, we’ve developed a strong foundation for success.  The future is bright for further building our business and providing customers with the cost and IT simplicity that they need.”

“Such strong quarter-over-quarter success shows that our efforts to provide a single piece of software that simplifies the data center process and offers a secure multi tenancy for clouds is resonating in the marketplace,” said Yan Ness, VergeIO CEO. “We are very pleased with the results of Q3 2022 given that we launched our website only 7 months ago and most of our sales team has only been in place for 6 months.  From increased bookings with new and existing customers, expanded partnership opportunities and adding experience to our executive board, VergeIO is poised to continue its pattern of growth as we provide a better alternative to traditional legacy cloud architectures that are too complex and require too much management.”

VergeIO Unveils Shared, Virtualized GPU Computing to Cut Complexity and Cost

September 14, 2022 by Verge.IO Leave a Comment

Virtualization of GPU resources simply and affordably supports AI/ML, remote desktop and other performance-intensive workloads

ANN ARBOR, Mich.—August 16, 2022 — VergeIO, the company with a simpler way to virtualize data centers, has added significant new features to its Verge-OS software to give users the performance of GPUs as virtualized, shared resources. This creates a cost-effective, simple and flexible way to perform GPU-based machine learning, remote desktop and other compute-intensive workloads within an agile, scalable, secure Verge-OS virtual data center.

Verge-OS abstracts compute, network, and storage from commodity servers and creates pools of raw resources that are simple to run and manage, creating feature-rich infrastructures for environments and workloads like clusteredHPC in universities, ultra-converged and hyperconverged enterprises, DevOps andTest/Dev, compliant medical and healthcare, remote and edge compute includingVDI, and xSPs offering hosted services including private clouds.

Current methods for deploying GPUs systemwide are complex and expensive, especially for remote users. Rather than supplying GPUs throughout the organization, VergeIO allows users and applications with access to a virtual data center to share the computing resources of a singleGPU-equipped server. Users/administrators can ‘pass through’ an installed GPU to a virtual data center by simply creating a virtual machine with access to that GPU and its resources.

Alternatively, VergeIO can manage the virtualization of theGPU and serve up vGPUs to virtual data centers. This allows organizations to easily manage vGPUs on the same platform as all other shared resources.

According to Darren Pulsipher, Chief Solution Architect of PublicSector at Intel, “The market is looking for simplicity, and Verge-OS is like an‘Easy Button’ for creating a virtual cloud that is so much faster and easier to set up than a private cloud. With Verge-OS, my customers can migrate and manage their data centers anywhere and upgrade their hardware with zero downtime.”

“The ability to deploy GPU in a virtualized, converged environment, and access that performance as needed, even remotely, radically reduces the investment in hardware while simplifying management,” said VergeIO CEO Yan Ness. “Our users are increasingly needing GPU performance, from scientific research to machine learning, so vGPU and GPU Passthrough are simple ways to share and pool GPU resources as they do with the rest of their processing capabilities.”

Verge-OS is an ultra-thin software—less than 300,000 lines of code—that is easy to install and scale on low-cost commodity hardware and self-manages based on AI/ML. A single license replaces separate hypervisor, networking, storage, data protection, and management tools to simplify operations and downsize complex technology stacks.

Secure virtual data centers based on Verge-OS include all enterprise data services like global deduplication, disaster recovery, continuous data protection, snapshots, long-distance synch, and auto-failover. Nested multi-tenancy gives service providers, departmental enterprises, and campuses the ability to assign resources and services to groups and sub-groups.

Currently VergeIO supports NVIDIATesla and Ampere cards; additional licenses must be purchased for vGPU capability.
