VergeIO Announces VergeOS Support in Veeam Backup Replication

VergeIO, maker of the VergeOS private cloud operating system, today announced that VergeOS is now officially supported in Veeam Backup & Replication through the Veeam Plug-in for Universal Hypervisor API. Veeam® Software, the Data and AI Trust Company, delivers a unified data and AI trust layer that connects security, governance, compliance, privacy and resilience, powered by shared intelligence across the entire data estate. VergeOS is now available in the Veeam console alongside every other supported virtualization platform.. There is no driver to configure, no workaround to document, and no product a backup administrator has to be talked through before the first job runs.

The announcement follows VergeIO’s prior work to implement Veeam’s Universal Hypervisor API. With VergeOS now listed in Veeam’s Universal Hypervisor documentation, customers can move from evaluation to protected production workloads without building a custom backup process around the hypervisor.

Does this replace the oVirt driver approach announced earlier in 2026?
Yes. Veeam now recognizes VergeOS directly through the Veeam Universal Hypervisor API rather than reaching it through the oVirt KVM driver. The earlier path worked in production, but it required explaining why a platform appeared under a driver named after a different one.
What versions are required?
Veeam Backup & Replication 13.1, initial release build 13.1.0.411, running against VergeOS 26.1.7 or later. VergeOS 26.1.8 is the current production release, so newly deployed environments already clear the requirement.
Which Veeam operations are supported?
CBT incremental backup, Backup Scan, cross-platform restore, read-only disk mount on Windows and Linux, file-level recovery, export to VHD, VHDX and VMDK, and application-item recovery for Oracle, Active Directory, SharePoint, Exchange and SQL.
Is VM replication or CDP supported for VergeOS?
Not in 13.1. Veeam added VM replication for Proxmox VE in this release, and CDP is not available for VergeOS. VergeOS provides its own cross site replication through ioReplicate at the infrastructure layer.
Can VergeOS be an Instant Recovery target?
No. VergeOS is a source rather than a target. Instant Recovery runs from VergeOS backups to vSphere, Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV and Proxmox VE, with Proxmox support marked experimental by Veeam.
If VergeOS has its own data protection, why run Veeam as well?
The two answer different scopes. VergeOS handles infrastructure-scale recovery including node loss, site loss, and rollback of an entire environment. Veeam handles granular file, application and database recovery along with long-term retention policy. Running both produces depth that neither delivers alone.
How long does it take to connect an existing Veeam deployment?
An administrator selects Add Server, then Virtualization Platforms, then VergeOS, and adds the VergeOS Manager to the inventory. Backup jobs are then scheduled the same way they are for any other supported platform. The September 3 session walks through the full sequence from an empty environment to a recovered workload.
