  • Features
    • Virtual Data Centers
A VergeOS Virtual Data Center (VDC) is a fully isolated, self-contained environment within a single VergeOS instance that includes its own compute, storage, networking, and management controls
    • High Availability
VergeOS provides a unified, easy-to-manage infrastructure that ensures continuous high availability through automated failover, storage efficiency, clone-like snapshots, and simplified disaster recovery
    • ioClone
ioClone utilizes global inline deduplication and a blockchain-inspired file system within VergeFS to create instant, independent, space-efficient, and immutable snapshots of individual VMs, volumes, or entire virtual data centers.
    • ioReplicate
ioReplicate is a unified disaster-recovery solution that enables simple, cost-efficient DR testing and failover via three‑click recovery of entire Virtual Data Centers—including VMs, networking, and storage.
    • ioFortify
ioFortify creates immutable, restorable VDC checkpoints and provides proactive ransomware detection with instant alerts for rapid recovery and response.
    • ioMigrate
ioMigrate enables large-scale VMware migrations, automating the rehosting of hundreds of VMs (including networking settings) in seconds with minimal downtime by seamlessly transitioning entire VMware environments onto existing hardware stacks.
    • ioProtect
ioProtect offers near-real-time replication of VMware VMs—including data, network, and compute configurations—to a remote disaster‑recovery site on existing hardware, slashing DR costs by over 60% while supporting seamless failover and testing in an efficient, turnkey VergeOS Infrastructure.

VergeIO’s storage by replacing aging SAN/NAS systems within its ultraconverged infrastructure, enhancing security, scalability, and affordability.
    • Infrastructure Modernization
Legacy infrastructure is fragmented, complex, and costly, built from disconnected components. VergeOS unifies virtualization, storage, networking, data protection, and AI into one platform, simplifying operations and reducing expenses.
    • Secure Research Computing
VergeIO's Secure Research Computing solution combines speed, isolation, compliance, scalability, and resilience in a cohesive platform. It’s ideal for institutions needing segmented, compliant compute environments that are easy to deploy, manage, and recover.
    • Venues, Remote Offices, and Edge
VergeOS delivers resiliency and centralized management across Edge, ROBO, and Venue environments. With one platform, IT can keep remote sites independent while managing them all from a single pane of glass.
  • Blog
      • Refurbished Hardware Made ResilientRefurbished hardware funds your VMware exit. VergeOS keeps it running through drive and server failures with RF2, RF3, and ioGuardian.
      • Storage Tiering is Not the Problem. Losing Control of It Is.Auto-tiering guesses which data is hot, and the guess costs money in both directions: flash held too long, or flash withheld too late. VergeOS puts storage tiering control back with the team running the workload, moving live VMs between tiers instantly, shrinking what the next flash refresh has to buy.
      • Multi-Tenant BackupMost teams treat the Virtual Data Center as a cloud-provider feature, but enterprises carry the same tenancy problem under different names: production and development, a subsidiary, a regulated department. VergeOS enforces that boundary at the infrastructure layer, and Veeam inherits it, tenant by tenant, each one its own VergeOS Manager.

Open Speaker Three Clocks Renewal Refresh Hardware One OS Regain Control

Using the VMware Exit to Regain Control of Your Data Center

George Crump

Founder, Storage Switzerland 30+ Years in IT Analyst, Writer, Speaker

George Crump is the founder of Storage Switzerland, an analyst firm covering storage, virtualization, and cloud infrastructure, and now works at VergeIO. He has advised enterprise IT leaders on data center architecture for more than 30 years, and he writes and speaks on the economics and control of modern infrastructure. His argument is direct. Infrastructure is too complex and brittle to support workloads of the future.

Today: the three clocks that took control of your data center, and what it takes to get all three back.

01
The Idea

HCI or three tier, the same three clocks.

Renewal, refresh, and hardware, each set to someone else’s schedule. The VMware exit is your moment to take all three back.

  • Every clock was set by a vendor, not by a workload.
  • Control left one contract at a time, and each renewal hardens the terms.
  • A buyer who cannot leave cannot negotiate.

02
Clock One

The Renewal Clock

A vendor writes your renewal date, your bundle, and your terms. You just sign.

  • Core-based licensing turns a processor choice into a math problem. The software bill routinely passes the hardware bill.
  • Broadcom raised the minimum from 16 cores per CPU to 72, then customer pressure forced it back. The lever is still in the vendor’s hand.
Before Broadcom~$40K / yr
After Broadcom~$200K–270K / yr

Reported annual VMware cost for the same 10 servers, roughly 320 cores, before and after the 72-core minimum.

03
Clock Two

The Refresh Clock

A support calendar retires working servers, on the vendor’s schedule, not yours.

  • Dell gives a PowerEdge generation about five years of standard support. HPE and Cisco run similar clocks.
  • Enterprise servers run well for seven to ten years. The calendar forces the decision, not the equipment.
  • Third-party maintenance survives as an entire industry because buyers want to keep good hardware running.

04
Clock Three

The Hardware Clock

A compatibility list decides which servers you are allowed to buy next.

  • Step off the certified list and support goes with it. The vendor approves the hardware, not the buyer.
  • vSAN licenses every server in the cluster by core, whether that node does storage work or not.
  • The Nutanix controller VM reserves roughly 16 vCPUs and 64 GB per node before an application runs.
05
The Upgrade

Four tiers become one OS.

Network, virtualization, storage, and data protection in a single codebase, on hardware you own.

  • One install, one license, and one update cover the whole stack. No seams to certify.
  • A running node evacuates and leaves the cluster with its workloads live, so the retirement date is yours.
  • Generations of commodity x86 mix in one system, and storage scales without buying cores.
Network Storage Compute Data Protection One OS
Regain Control

Take back all three clocks.

Renewal

One platform license. No core rounding, no repricing at the renewal date.

Refresh

Hardware runs until you retire it, not until a support calendar says so.

Hardware

Any commodity x86, generations mixed freely. No compatibility list.

The renewal date, the refresh timeline, and the hardware, back on your schedule.
