    • Secure Research Computing
VergeIO's Secure Research Computing solution combines speed, isolation, compliance, scalability, and resilience in a cohesive platform. It’s ideal for institutions needing segmented, compliant compute environments that are easy to deploy, manage, and recover.
    • Venues, Remote Offices, and Edge
VergeOS delivers resiliency and centralized management across Edge, ROBO, and Venue environments. With one platform, IT can keep remote sites independent while managing them all from a single pane of glass.
  • Blog
      • Refurbished Hardware Made ResilientRefurbished hardware funds your VMware exit. VergeOS keeps it running through drive and server failures with RF2, RF3, and ioGuardian.
      • Storage Tiering is Not the Problem. Losing Control of It Is.Auto-tiering guesses which data is hot, and the guess costs money in both directions: flash held too long, or flash withheld too late. VergeOS puts storage tiering control back with the team running the workload, moving live VMs between tiers instantly, shrinking what the next flash refresh has to buy.
      • Multi-Tenant BackupMost teams treat the Virtual Data Center as a cloud-provider feature, but enterprises carry the same tenancy problem under different names: production and development, a subsidiary, a regulated department. VergeOS enforces that boundary at the infrastructure layer, and Veeam inherits it, tenant by tenant, each one its own VergeOS Manager.

Title It Broke Waiting Fails Tiering One OS The Math Live Demo

01 · The Break

This is contract pricing, not spot noise. The quotes you receive this quarter already carry it.

Why Waiting Fails

Waiting is a bet that the market turns before the array does, and the wafer data says it does not.

Now
Quotes already carry the Q1–Q3 2026 increases. Every quarter of delay prices higher, not lower.
2027
Hardware support expires. Extended support pricing and failure risk both climb in the gap.
Late 2027
New fab capacity begins to arrive, in volume terms still early.
2028+
Earliest meaningful relief, and the sellers have learned what the market will pay.

The gap is the problem

Relief arrives after your hardware support does. The plan that waits is a plan that runs production on an unsupported array through the most expensive flash market in thirty years.

03 · Tiering

You Know Your Data. Auto-Tiering Does Not.

Tiering is how you stop paying flash prices for data that no longer earns them. The problem was never tiering. The problem was who controlled it.

  • Auto-tiering guesses. It predicts what turns hot and cold, it almost always predicts wrong, and you have no control over the outcome.
  • You already know. Tax season ends on a date, not on an algorithm’s guess. You know when an application runs hot and when its data goes cold.
  • Movement in seconds. When VergeOS moves a running workload between tiers in seconds, prediction stops mattering. You make the call, and the data follows.

Watch it happen live

In the demo, David moves a running workload from flash to a hard drive tier while you watch, and the performance numbers tell the story.

Running VM WRITES READS Tax season ends. The workload flips from writes to reads. FLASH TIER 2026 prices · save it for hot data VM was here MOVED LIVE in seconds HDD TIER a fraction of the cost per TB VM · running RAM CACHE CARRIES THE READS Global inline deduplication keeps the cache efficient, so performance holds Your decision, committed in the interface. No algorithm guessed.
04 · The Upgrade

Four Tiers Become One OS

Network, virtualization, storage, and data protection in a single code base, on hardware you already own.

  • One install, one license, and one update cover the whole stack. No seams to certify, and the VMware exit comes in the same move.
  • A running node evacuates and leaves the cluster with its workloads live, so the retirement date is yours.
  • Generations of commodity x86 mix in one system, and storage scales without buying cores.
  • Global inline deduplication shrinks the purchased footprint. Fewer new flash devices means less exposure to the price of flash.
  • VergeOS is licensed by the server, not the terabyte. Storage adds nothing to the license, so buy servers with plenty of drive bays and fill them with all the capacity you can afford.

Price Check · 8TB-Class (7.68 TB) Enterprise Drive · August 20, 2026
$3,499–$3,999
New enterprise NVMe U.2/U.3, 7.68 TB. Roughly $455–$520 per TB at current list. Outliers to $4,800.
≈ $2,238
Refurbished enterprise 7.68 TB (Dell-branded SAS, read-intensive). Roughly $291 per TB, about 40% under new.
Drive strategy: mid-density drives, 7.68 to 15.36 TB, carry the lowest price per TB right now. The 30 and 60 TB flash drives price at a premium and run in shorter supply. More mid-size drives spread across more servers also buys resilience, the opposite of all the eggs in one basket.
Spot-checked August 20, 2026: new-drive listings at Newegg (Micron/Kioxia/Seagate 7.68 TB class), refurbished at ETB Technologies. Re-verify before the August 24 recording.

Flash and HDD prices are list, and the discount slider applies to both columns. The comparison term applies to both sides: array software and support accrues per year of the term, and the VergeOS subscription runs per server per year over the same term. The tiering slider moves the cold share of the deduplicated footprint to HDD, and the array column stays all-flash. Check the array-deduplication box to grant the array the same dedupe ratio, and the markup, license, support, and all-flash footprint still carry the difference. Storage capacity adds nothing to the VergeOS line. Protection overhead applies to both sides and is left out. Enter a real VergeOS quote in the platform-cost field to keep the math honest on screen.
