      • Beyond the VMware Exit Consolidate Every Platform onto VergeOS with VeeamMost VMware alternatives only promise a home for vSphere workloads. With official VergeOS support in Veeam Backup & Replication 13.1, one restore job moves workloads from vSphere, Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, AWS, Azure, GCP, and physical servers onto VergeOS. Consolidate onto VergeOS from every platform you run, and retire the rest.
      • The Maintenance Line You Can’t EscapeScott Bartgis stopped paying VMware maintenance and froze Saratoga Casino Holdings at version 7. The license type was never the problem. The renewal curve was. Here is what a VMware perpetual license buys you, what it costs to hold one unsupported in a regulated environment, and the terms that got him back under support.
      • Storage Tiering Without the Capacity TaxStorage tiering was never an array feature. It was a placement decision that lived where the intelligence sat. Lab measurements show a VergeOS tier change acknowledged in 1.3 seconds with the VM still running, and per-node licensing that decides who captures the data reduction: the customer or the vendor's meter.

Session Agenda

Sixty Minutes, Most of It Demonstrations

If you have been following the VMware exit story, the licensing math stopped being the hard part a while ago. The hard part is operational risk, and data protection sits at the center of it. Replacing a virtualization platform is one project with a defined scope. Replacing the platform and the backup infrastructure wrapped around it is two projects running at the same time against production systems.

Veeam Backup & Replication 13.1 removed the second project for one platform. This hour opens the console and shows it running.

Context

What the Universal Hypervisor API Changes

Rick Vanover on why Veeam built the API and what official platform support carries with it for a customer.

Connect

Add VergeOS to Veeam

Add Server, Virtualization Platforms, VergeOS, added as a VergeOS Manager. Plus the one package enabled on the VergeOS side.

Protect

First Backup, First Restore

A job running with Changed Block Tracking, then a file level restore into a running guest.

Migrate

Move a Workload onto VergeOS

Entire VM Restore from any supported hypervisor, from AWS, Azure, or GCP, or from a Veeam Agent physical backup.

Recover

Move a Workload Back Out

Instant Recovery from a VergeOS backup to vSphere, Hyper-V, or Nutanix AHV. Same console, opposite direction.

Live Q&A

Open Questions

Unscripted. Rick and Dave both stay on for deployment prerequisites, recovery paths, and where the platform layer picks up.

Who Should Attend

Built for the Practitioners Running the Evaluation

Virtualization leads, infrastructure architects, and the backup administrators who hold veto power over the platform decision. The session assumes you know enterprise backup and assumes nothing about VergeOS, so the platform side gets explained rather than skipped.

Service providers running multi tenant estates will find the tenant model covered directly. Each tenant is added as its own VergeOS Manager with its own engine ID, so jobs, retention, and reporting stay separated per tenant.

About VergeOS

What VergeOS Is, for Anyone Meeting It Here First

VergeOS is a private cloud operating system from VergeIO. It consolidates five infrastructure products into a single software layer running on standard hardware, which removes the server refresh most VMware alternatives quietly require. Enterprises, service providers, and government organizations run it in place of VMware and traditional HCI.

Protection is a core function rather than an add on. VergeOS absorbs node loss, replicates across sites through ioReplicate, holds immutable checkpoints through ioFortify, and rolls an entire Virtual Data Center back in minutes. That work happens at infrastructure scale, and it complements a backup product rather than competing with one.

About Veeam

The Backup Investment Survives the Migration

Veeam provides data protection and ransomware recovery for organizations from SMB to enterprise, with more than 550,000 customers worldwide. Veeam Backup & Replication 13.1 added VergeOS as a fully supported hypervisor through the Universal Hypervisor API.

In Veeam’s own words, VergeOS “has been integrated into the Veeam Universal Hypervisor API and is now a fully supported hypervisor in Veeam Backup & Replication.” A customer running Veeam today keeps the product, the licensing, the policies defended in audits, and the staff who know the console. The platform underneath changes, and the data protection decision does not have to be reopened.
